August Hess
Alma´s valet

Alma´s constant companion in New York was her servant August who, because of his good looks, was also known as »handsome« August. He most liked to refer to himself as a poet and composer, and appeared in operettas in Los Angeles with a German-speaking ensemble, but his lack of education would drive Alma into a frenzy. Yet August knew very well how he had to treat her. She paid him well, and by the time he later retired, he was the owner of several houses in New York, suggesting that he was well rewarded for keeping silent.
